Day 13 - Looking Better!

Luke had the tracheostomy this morning. He looks so much better! No more tubes in his mouth with his lips swelled and chapped. He does have his small feeding tube going in through his nose to his stomach.

He is being kept sedated today and tomorrow until he goes in to surgery again on Tuesday to do repairs on his hand. They plan to bring him out of sedation early tomorrow morning for a brief time to get it out of his system. If they keep him in constant sedation the sedative will build up in his tissues and it will prolong bringing him out when he is ready. For now he is resting comfortably. His temperature was down this morning but went back up this afternoon. He is still probably fighting the bacterial infection. Continue to pray for that.

They didn't do a sprint this morning since he was going for the tracheostomy. They won't do one tonight either, so he can rest. The respiratory therapist was in this afternoon and did a suction on his lungs and got virtually nothing! Thank you, Lord -- prayers answered again!

Glad to hear he is looking better and hopefully the good Lord will remove that infection and start showing greater progress daily. He has a plan for all of you. There are so many daily prayers going out to all of you. Please tell Luke we are praying for him and looking forward to the day when he can write to us. Keep us updated. Was down to see Brock yesterday and he too is keeping up on his progress. Know we are praying for all of you.

Hi, Thank you for all the updates on Luke. I pray for him constantly. I can see that God is at work answering so many prayers & I pray that when he does come around that the Lord will help him to accept all that has happened to him & he can have a complete recovery. I have been thru a similar scary experience with my husband 4 yrs ago to this mo. & he is getting around & enjoying life even tho he does have a few problems. He is much older than Luke. God is good & does perform miracles & it sounds like he is working on one for Luke. Hang in there family, my thoughts & prayers are with all of you, too. Wow, just heard today about Luke's incident from an IWU friend back in IN. I can hardly believe it! Luke and I went to IWU together. I now live in LA and was down to SD this summer to visit with Luke for a weekend. Please tell Luke that I said HI and that I'm thinking about him and wishing him well.

I'd like to come visit him as some point... I'll just keep watching this update. Could you let me know when would be a good time to make the trip down to SD?

Thanks. My thoughts are with you guys as well as Luke. I hope to see his progress continue to be positive!

Good morning Dithrich Family,
It is wonderful to hear about Luke's great progress. It may seem slow, but God's hand is sure.

The Lord is really blessing Luke. May He continue to walk next to your family and Luke. Luke is in our prayers everyday.

One of my favorite poems that reminds me of your family and Luke right now...

Footprints in the Sand:

One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord. Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.

In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand. Sometimes there were two sets of footprints, other times there was one only.

This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life, when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat, I could see only one set of footprints, so I said to the Lord,

“You promised me Lord,
that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life there has only been one set of footprints in the sand. Why, when I needed you most, have you not been there for me?”

The Lord replied, “The years when you have seen only one set of footprints, my child, is when I carried you.”

My husband and I are so thrilled for the continued progress that Luke is making. We think warmly of his close and remarkable family. Your spirit and devotion to each other are a testimony to all of us who care so much about all of you. The world would indeed be a much better place if more families were like yours. Bless you all,
