Day 33 - 36 Hours and Counting!

Last night I reported that they would be putting Luke back on the respirator over night. When we got in to see him this morning we found out that he was doing so well without it that they left him off it. He has gone the day with just the trach collar so he has been breathing totally on his own for over 36 hours! In fact, when we got back in to see him tonight the respirator had been removed from his room. Praise be to God for the wonderful progress Luke has made the past couple of days!

Luke told us yesterday that he was seeing double when writing messages on the board and this afternoon an eye specialist came in and gave him a thorough checkup. He didn't find anything that would be causing the problem. Luke is scheduled for an MRI tomorrow to check for any problems that may be causing the inability to move his left arm. They will also check his brain for anything that may be affecting his vision.

For his eye checkup it was necessary to cap his trach tube so he could speak. He was able to stay that way until we left at 6:30. What a tremendous blessing to talk with him! Luke was being the Luke we all know and love, making jokes and enjoying conversing. He said he would give anything for a glass of orange juice. He is so looking forward to being able to eat real food again. This evening when we came back in he tried again with the cap but had a little trouble with it so they took it back off.

The past two days they have been lowering his dosage of fentanyl (pain medication) until this evening when they shut it off! All he is receiving now is some antibiotics with fluids. They will now be administering pain medication for him whenever he needs it.

Thank you Lord. I will definitely call for praise on this one at church this morning. I know there will be little bumps in the road, in the days ahead, but thankfully Luke has rounded a very tough bend. I'm certain every day will bring more and more praises. Stay strong. God bless to all.

I am so thankful that even through this hard time, Luke is able to keep the humor we all know and love! More praise for his progress, yet prayers continue for progress to continue.

Luke would never know what an inspiration he has been just by being the young man he must have always been.
I only know that God works in some many ways. I have read this blog every day, many time through tears and feel such a connection to Luke, his incredible family and the many people following Luke's progress.
We all have our stories and Luke's story will always be a part of us.
Thank God for Luke's life, his recovery and the grace he is showing all of us.

This is a big step! Thank you God!
We pray that the blurred vision is a reaction, maybe medicine. He sounds to be in a good mental state, Praise you Lord.
We have prayed so strongly for Luke, we can feel the energy of the prayers from everyone.
With all that has been stated the work of Lord is moving through this hospital, to all Your Glory God.
With Love and Prayer,

Today begins the season of Advent. In preparation we are looking to clear the clutter in our lives so that we can recognize, accept and experience the gracious gifts of security, peace, forgiveness and love. It is such great news that Luke's room is being cleared of the clutter from the respirator during this time. Coincidence? I don't think so. Our Great God speaks to and teaches us through many different venues. The more we look and listen, the more we will see and hear. As God continues to clear away the drugs, tubes, machines and any other apparatus hooked to Luke, I pray He fills him with the same gifts of security, peace, forgiveness and love.
Blessings to you all!!

Hey Luke, there is suppose to be a spectacular sky scene Monday night. I know how you loved star-gazing in the past. I hope you get to see it.

This is absolutely wonderful news and I was really excited to hear it. I am also really relieved that Luke is in good spirits and staying positive. I thank God every day for such amazing progress Luke has made and all the blessings he has given to all of us. It seems like the last couple days he has just made a tremendous step towards recovery and I hope it stays that way, he is a great person and we all need him back. I will continue to pray and keep you all in my thoughts and please give Luke all my love and let him know we miss him.
