Day 14 - R & R

Luke had a day of rest and recuperation today. His biggest activity was a breathing exercise this morning. Paula was there to talk him through it, encouraging him to take deep, slow breaths. He will have another one later this evening.

He will be going in for surgery tomorrow morning to repair the broken bones in his left hand. He also needs some more work on his leg to have more muscle covering the end of the bone. They may do that while they have him in the O.R.

Today he followed the same cycle that he has the past couple of days. His temperature is down in the morning but through the course of the day gets up to over 101°. They took more cultures today of his blood, urine and sputum.

He does respond to some voice commands, but stays in a sleepy state. Continue to pray for the infection and his surgery(ies) tomorrow.

Bill and Paula, prayers flow upward continually for Luke, for you both, for Becki and Ben. The road ahead will no doubt have some bumps along the way, but fear not! God's plans will not be thwarted. I am so grateful to our Lord Jesus Christ for his provision of salvation through His shed blood on the Cross, for His resurrection from the dead and for His coming again to reign as King. I am grateful for the opportunity to say yes to Him. I am grateful for His work in your lives, for His testimony that shines brightly through each of you. I pray the truth of His word showers over you, that it continues to encourage and enable you to overcome evil with good, to love your neighbor as yourself, yes and even to love your enemies. The updates on Luke's physical condition are great to hear. God is not done with him yet!! With joyous expectation, I await the day to hear the update when Luke has overcome this and gives the glory to God. Until then, I'll be on my knees with you and so many others that love him.

My family let me know what happened and pointed me to the blog. I'm struggling to hold back tears as I write this. It is so hard that God has asked this of you all. I'm glad to hear that Luke is making steady progress, and my wife, Laura, and I send our prayers and love to you all from Illinois!

I know that Luke is so blessed to have you both with him, standing by in support, but most importantly in prayer. You have taught him well and guided him through life and watched your son grow into a Godly man! It is so encouraging to hear updates, but also encouraging to see you laying your son before a great and mighty God and saying Your will be done, as you trust that God has a great plan for Luke.
