The big news for today is Luke was able to begin back with his sprint exercises. That is where he breathes on his own for a while with little help with the respirator. Paula and I were able to be with Luke and coached him by encouraging him to take deep slow breaths. When he sprints he has a tendency to take quick shallow breaths. He was pretty well sedated all day with only brief periods of restlessness.
They took cultures of his urine, sputum and blood. Hopefully they won't grow anything! All his vitals held steady today with his temperature taking its daily rise in the afternoon.

Hi Bill and Paula,
I continue pray for Luke and your entire family often. I am inspired by Luke's progress and by your dedication and faith. As a mother, I can not imagine how stressful this emotional roller coaster must be.
Although I have only met you a few times at the family reunions, I have felt such a connection to you all. You are always on my mind and in my prayers.
Love,
Beth (Dithrich) Shapiro
It is so great to hear that Luke is able to do his sprints again and I pray that soon his lungs will be strong again and he will be able to breathe without no help.I continue to pray for Luke and your whole family and you always remain in the prayers and thoughts of my family. I am moved by the progress Luke has made in just the last couple days, he has always been so strong and determined and that, everyones love, and God's praise is what will continue to help everyone throught these tough times and give give Luke what he needs for his recovery. I have never met you only Luke and for that I am sorry but I feel so close to all of you through these terrible times and send many thoughts and love your way. Your strength is amazing and I want to thank you for keeping us update. Thank you.
We look forward to hearing from you and the update on Luke. Thanks for doing such a fantastic job. It helps us to focus on certain areas of Luke's recovery. We are praying for his lungs and no infection as well as his whole body and mind. Also for yours too, Bill and Paula; Becki and Ben; and of course Louise. How great it is for so many Christians joining together and seeing how great our heavenly father is. Nothing else will get you all through this than your faith. We can see that His arms are holding you up. Praying for you now and in the future; and praising God for His healing touch. Take care.

Barry and I are so grateful that you are able to post updates as your Little League family of friends continue to say prayers for Luke's recovery. Please don't forget to take care of yourselves during this difficult time.

Thank you so very much for updating the "blog". I read it everyday and pray for Luke. It is the very first thing I do every morning, check to make sure he is ok and I don't even know him. My daughter helped at the Applebees fundraiser and was very moved by it. Thanks for sharing your life with us everyday. It is appreciated. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Hey Bill :-) Once again Thank you for the updates. Everyday I am anxious to read how Luke is doing. I'm so glad they were able to take the other chest tube out. I have never had one, but I'm sure they are very painful. The patients I have taken care of before feel SO RELIEVED to have their chest tube pulled out...I'm sure Luke feels the same! Corey and I are continuing to pray for Luke and all your family.
With much Love,

Bill and PAula, Oh so many are praying and it sounds like prayers are being answered. Was able to talk with Becky at the pancake breakfast and she updated us on things. We will continue to pray but wanted you to know we are thinking of all three of you often. As nurses, we can say, listen to them, they know so much and will help you. love and prayers.
